 Canna 'Phaison'There seems to be an ever increasing range of Cannas available from Europe which have been bred for hardiness, some of them dwarf and all of them loaded with flowers. However, more interesting hybrids, sports and breeding developments are coming from the US at the moment, many of them via South Africa. Dan Heims has some interesting ones at Terra Nova Nurseries in Portland Oregon and there are many exciting new selections from the US (Canna 'Kansas City' from Jim Waddick) in the excellent new Plant Delights Nursery catalogue from Tony Avent. Canna 'Phaison' seems to be exciting many. It is a sport from 'Wyoming' selected by Jan Potgeither in South Africa. Purple leaves with stripes of yellow and red throughout the leaf makes a dramatic statement in any border - especially at 7 foot tall (2.2 metres) with shocking orange flowers on top!
